Camino is not limited to hoofing it anymore. Those biking it are only 8% and possibly quite annoying!!! They are termed 'bibigrinos'. Here we are on the opposite side of the world and the weather is just as c-r-a-z-y. Spring in Sarria, Spain is supposed to be mild, without a lot of rain. Now the odd thunderstorm appeared from left field......just as we are to embark on the Camino Trail.
Our Camino introduction hasn't been without it's challenges. First of all our taxi transfer from Santiago Airport didn't turn up, but thankfully the driver was given a Spanish tongue-lashing and we managed not to walk!!!!
Sarria is totally geared for the modern-day pilgrims. Their century-old legacy of hospitality is unmistakable and it certainly doesn't lack in the yellow arrow Camino indicators and churches dating back centuries. On arrival, Helen and I started our training for the days to come.....
We meandered around the streets and came across these stunning murals,.....perhaps our highlights.
And so bright and early this morning we set off....Helen on foot, and me by E-bike.
Here was my first obstacle......
But fortunately I was able to zoom up an adjoining road. The challenges didn't end there, ...a few more appeared along the way....
On so on through forest, farmland, vineyards, chestnut trees and a host of small villages we came to our first stopover at this delightful town called Portmarin.
